Our Associate Program

Associates are non-vowed members who desire to be part of the tradition of a religious community and further desire to make a commitment to the community.

In 2002 our Associate team was formed to study the possibility of an Associate Program for our Province of the School Sisters of St. Francis of Christ the King.  The study involved looking at existing Associate Programs, creating a program that would fit us, and then creating a handbook and a brochure to be distributed to our prospective Associates. The first Associate Orientation Program began in 2003 with 13 candidates.  In the ensuing years, many other men and women have joined the Associate Program. Today there are 33 Associates of the School Sisters of St. Francis of Christ the King.

This spring of 2018 a new group of five men and women completed the Orientation Program.  On April 21 all the present Associates were invited to renew their commitment for one year, and the new members made their initial commitment.

Becoming an Associate

Anyone 18 years or older interested in joining our Associate Program may be recommended by a Sister or one of the current Associates, or she/he may be someone who knows us or works with us and is drawn to being an Associate.  The following is the process from request to commitment:

      • Make an initial contact.

      • Complete an application form and present three letters of recommendation to the Associate Team.

      • Have an interview with one of the Sisters on the Associate Team.

      • Complete the Orientation Program.

      • Choose to make a one-year commitment to the Community.

      • Renew one-year commitment each year.

What do Associates do?

      • Share in the spiritual activities of the Sisters.

      • Share in on-going instruction in Franciscanism.

      • Share in our mission through their service in their parishes and in volunteer experiences.

      • Share social activities with the Sisters.

An ongoing project of our Associates has been the collection, storage and distribution of goods to incoming refugees in the Chicago Archdiocese.
